Wheels Were Stolen

My Car’s Tires and Wheels Were Stolen While I was at Work near Downtown Portland. Oregon’s Leaders are Lost, Awash in a Sea of Crime, Drugs, and Homeless. [video]

It was an ordinary Monday morning. At least, it seemed that way.

I walk to work most days since it’s less than a mile. But on Monday, I had some errands to run and my husband and I were meeting up with our financial planner in a few hours. I got to work early to adjust the time for the hour or so I’d be away.

I had parked alongside our office on a quiet, wide street, surrounded by businesses and a couple of homes sandwiched between SE 11th and SE 12th Avenues near SE Division. Division Street is a busy hub of restaurants, coffee shops, offices, and transit stops, including a MAX train and buses.

I frequently park on busy SE 12th, but the street feels narrow, and huge trucks sometimes barrel by, making me anxious about the external mirrors being destroyed by a vehicle passing too closely.

But today, I had the rare chance to snag a quiet spot on a larger street because I was early. How lucky I was, I thought. I don’t have to worry about anyone smashing into my car from behind.

So I told my co-worker, “Yes, I drove,” and asked, “What, did someone hit my car?” And he said quietly, “I don’t know how to say this. But someone just stole your wheels.”
